I purchased the AC power cord as an alternate to charge the GPS battery over night. It came with different plug configurations depending on what country your in or visiting and are easily changed. I can also charge my GPS by using the computer interconnnect cable or the cigarette lighter plug. I tried it and it work just fine.

I have bought the garmin for my brother, my son, and my daughter-in-law....so decided to get one for my self. Inasmuch as my driving doesn't usually go past 10 minutes, I thought I needed the home model.

This charger is needed for walking or riding the motorcycle (if it doesn't have a cigarette lighter), which I do more often then drive. I believe it should have come with the product originally. But I guess most people only use it in the automobile.
