Magellan Maestro 4350 (refurbished) August 27, 2010 Chuck0521 The GPS worked great for the first part of our vacation. Then on our return trip the screen froze up .Could not restart it and could not us it for the rest of the trip.
Have sent it back and am waiting for a replacement unit.
Great product, 2010 maps not available, traded in for 4700! August 27, 2010 Old Jarhead As soon as I received my 4350, I checked to see if the map database was current and was surprised to see that it was dated 2008. (A friend's home built in 2006 was conspicusously missing). I called Magellan only to learn that there is no newer map database being made available for the 4350! Magellan then told me that I should upgrade my old Magellan Maestro 3225, which I have had for years and like, for the new 4700. they offered "a great deal" for only $150 WITH TRADE IN! I then re-checked the Amazon site to find Amazon offering the "Refirbished" (looks brand new to me) 4700 for only $10. more than the 4350. I returned the 4350, ordered the 4700 from Amazon, and kept my old 3225. The 4700 proved to also be loaded with the older maps database, HOWEVER Magellan permitted the online update to the "Spring 2010" map database! It uploaded quickly and included my friend's street. Be aware though that when Magellan went to the 4700, they left out a feature or two found in the 4350. The 4350 permits the downloading of music on an optional Secure Digital Memory Card, so the 4350 acts like an Ipod and further yet, will play over your car speakers through a built in transmitter if you tune the radio to a certain frequency. This is missing from the 4700, so take your pick, music or up to date maps! Now a pitch for Amazon.... The 4350 was taken back with no hasstle whatsoever. Unfortunately, the US Post Office damaged in transit the first 4700. Once again, Amazon replaced that device, rather quickly, even before they received the damaged device back! The 4700 and the 4350 are the same build product and are dramatic improvements over my old 3225. The touch screen is extremely responsive. It is a breeze to find hotel, business, restaurants, and all other "Points of Interest" information stored in the included AAA database. Once found, one touch phoning via Bluetooth calls the establishment you found quickly! Start typing a city name, and the full city name (or a list) appears before you are through typing the full name saving many keystrokes. The functions of finding out "Where am I" and saving locations in your address book have been improved dramatically over older versions such as my old Maestro 3225. The list of benefits goes on and on. I paid $99 for the 4700 and consider it money very well spent. If you prefer having the music feature and the slightly older 2008 map database does not give you concern, then I believe the 4350 is a deal that can not be beat also. Sorry if this is too wordy. I have always found Amazon reviews very helpful and I thought this my opportunity to contribute.
I Like my Magellan Maestro! August 26, 2010 LeeLee I just recieved my Magellan in the mail about a month and a half ago and I have been using it in the city that i go to school in. I haven't had any trouble with it yet, works great as far as I can tell. I have noticed that sometimes the voice cuts out mid sentence when it is re-calculating. Not really a big deal to me but it might be to someone else?
Just OK August 26, 2010 maracayerbero Bought this unit for a road trip. Within a day of use, it froze and needed to be reset. Froze again on my trip and needed to reset the little button while driving. This happened 4 times in less then a month. Also, the unit was completely lost when I was navigating on foot. It could not figure out where I was and was constantly searching for a GPS location, completely unreliable. Returning it for a different model.
megellion maestro4350 August 24, 2010 Did the download for the update and got an indication that it was current. After that update attempt, the voice guidence quit. Called the support group and they tried to walk me through the update. No luck. Still old version of update but got the sound to work by switching to the male voice??
